WebMD Second Video Collaboration

WebMD Second Video Collaboration

Hello, fabulous readers!

The second video for WebMD is now live, and it’s packed with essential tips and advice on navigating menopause treatment options. Whether you’re just starting to experience symptoms or looking to refine your current treatment plan, this video will provide valuable insights and guidance.

Before Your Visit: While waiting for your first appointment to discuss how to handle your menopause symptoms, think through what you’ll want to get out of your visit. I recommend:

  • Finding a Menopause-Savvy Doctor: It’s vitally important to find someone trained in menopause. Not all OB/GYNs are automatically versed in this area. Some doctors even have accreditation from the Menopause Society.
  • Doing Your Research: Stick with reputable, science-backed sites like the Menopause Society, the Office on Women’s Health, or the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
  • Talking to Friends: No two menopause journeys are the same, but hearing others’ experiences can help generate questions for your doctor.

You’ll likely get a good bit of information and direction at your visit, so come prepared to take notes. You may even want to bring a friend or loved one who can record or take notes on what you talk about with your doctor.

During Your Visit: While with your doctor, pay attention to how they communicate with you. You want a care partner who listens to your concerns, encourages you to ask questions, and is solution-oriented.

Questions to Ask Your Doctor:

  • Treatment Options: What are my options for treating my menopause symptoms? The best treatment depends on your specific symptoms, health history, and preferences.
  • Non-Hormonal Options: Are there non-hormonal options available for treating menopause symptoms?
  • Evaluating Treatment Effectiveness: How will I know if a treatment is working or not? Keep up with symptom tracking.
  • Potential Side Effects: What side effects might I have with my treatment? Understand the risk versus benefit.
  • Lifestyle Changes: What lifestyle changes could help with my symptoms? Medications are just one tool in your treatment toolbox. Overall healthy habits can significantly help.

After Your Visit:

  • Schedule Your Follow-Up: Your doctor will need to check in with you, especially if you’re starting hormone therapy.
  • Track Your Baseline: As you begin any kind of medication, record how you feel at the start. This helps measure your progress.
  • Continue Researching: You’re leaving with new information, so keep reading and learning about menopause and treatment options.
  • Connect and Reach Out: Menopause is often a taboo subject that we feel like we have to hide. Finding other people going through it can be a great relief. Remember, “Suffering in silence is out! Reaching out is in!”
