In Remembrance of My Father

In Remembrance of My Father

The very first man to imprint my life was my Dad.

Forty-four Father’s Days have come and gone—it seems like a lifetime—yet sometimes it seems like yesterday since I was in my favorite card shop searching for the perfect Father’s Day card for my Dad.

I used to buy my cards early when the Father section was overflowing with great options. I looked forward to sorting through the cutesy, gushy, silly, and fluffy ones to find a card that read my heart.

Today, I find my eyes wet as I stare at a young girl in the “Father” section. I long to reach for that perfect Daddy card, but instead, I reach for the look—that wonderful, nourishing, loving look my father would have when I walked in the room—that sparkle in his eyes that always made me giggle with delight as he nurtured me with joy, confidence, and his sweet pride.

I wish I could bottle that look, that way I could drink it in each day.  Thanks to my hormone therapy, I can still remember it as if it was yesterday!

I am so happy we were able to pack a lot of beautiful memories into the short time we had together.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad!
