Hormone Therapy Insight From North American Menopause Society
Hormone Therapy Insight From North American Menopause Society
I am passionate about delivering you the latest mid-life information to help you make informed healthcare decisions. With that in mind, I pay close attention to the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) press releases and often attend their conventions.
For those unfamiliar with NAMS, it is a non-profit organization founded in 1989. Its sole purpose is to educate medical practitioners and women in midlife and beyond on perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause.
I am flooded with emails from women all over the world who often feel like they are, “going crazy.” Suddenly they are experiencing drenching night sweats resulting in sleepless nights. Many are having uncontrollable hot flashes at work and report being on an emotional roller coaster. To top it all off, their libido has gone and left them stranded.
If you or someone you love is starting to experience some of the over 30 symptoms of menopause, first, find a menopause specialist. If you need some help with this, read Menopause Mondays®: Tips on How to Find a Menopause Specialist. Next, download my Menopause Mondays® Symptoms Chart and start charting those symptoms. Share your filled-out chart with your menopause specialist.
NAMS has a series of educational videos. The one I want to share with you is titled, Hormone Therapy: Understanding the Risks and Benefits. This interview with Dr. Juliana Kling, chair of Women’s Health, Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona is hosted by NAMS past president Dr. Marla Shapiro.
This video explains the benefits (heart health, bone health, etc.) and risks of HT based on accurate data. I recommend watching the whole video to get all of the nuggets of information that can help you make informed healthcare decisions based on facts – instead of fear.

Well, that was a useful conversation for women who are under 60 and less than 10 years from the onset of menopause. But I didn’t hear anything about women who don’t meet that criteria.
Hi Rhonda! Are you asking if you can start HT over the age of 60? Or are you asking can you stay on HT after the age of 60?
