When I was little I was not allowed to use the F word. Now that I am older, I sometimes fling it around once in awhile (sorry mom). While reading the August 22nd New York Times Style Magazine article, “The F Word” written by Daphne Merkin, I learned about a different kind of F word.
I don’t believe that being fat, overweight, or heavy is synonymous with ugly. What is the current definition of fat? Are you fat when you are a size 8 or are you fat when you are a size 20? It is, of course, a sliding scale, and everyone has their own benchmark.
People used to think that Marilyn Monroe was gorgeous. Today would she be fat?
Growing up, my definition of fat was me! Yep, I was convinced if I looked up fat in the dictionary it would boldly list my name. Then I hit perimenopause and menopause and looked back at photos from my younger years and realized I must have needed glasses.
I think the other F word that we should not let our children say is fat. I am eliminating it from my vocab. I don’t need it.
I say F Fat!
