The Vagina Monologues are coming to San Diego, and yours truly will be in the performance! Ok, so I’m not an actress, but I do have a shmirshky! There are over 11,000 Vagina Monologues plays being put on this season alone to raise money to stop sexual violence. Sixteen stories about women’s experiences that evoke laughter, pain, frustration, sadness, fear and excitement. This is a movement that creates transformational experiences for both the actors and the audience. It’s a way for us all to get behind a cause that changes lives. Join me at North Park’s Birch Theater in San Diego for our reception at 6:30pm and show at 7:30pm on Thursday, April 7, 2011.

100% of the proceeds from this event will go toward 4 Beneficiaries. No one gets paid – the actors and directors are volunteers, the producing organization Tribal Truth, all donated time. Here is some information about the causes you will be supporting:
V-Day – V-Day is a global movement of grassroots activists dedicated to generating broader attention and funds to stop violence against women and girls by creating dialogue and shattering taboos around violence against women and girls through thousands of events in over 140 countries.
Speak for Success: Women’s Leadership Institute – The Women’s Leadership Institute helps women build self-confidence, self-esteem and their leadership potential with an enriching empowerment and leadership program. Designed for women overcoming serious adversities including domestic violence, homelessness, and addiction, the Institute provides a powerful professional development experience that helps women transform and create the lives they were meant to have.
Jeans 4 Justice – The name Jeans 4 Justice comes from a grassroots campaign inspired by a 1999 case in Italian High Court in which a rape conviction was overturned because the victim was wearing jeans. The court concluded, “It is common knowledge…that jeans cannot even be partly removed without the effective help of the person wearing them…and it is impossible if the victim is struggling with all her might.” This campaign inspired a movement to bring an uncomfortable and understated issue into the limelight using a vehicle that is fresh, edgy, and universally understood…fashion!
Humanity In Motion – Humanity in Motion is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating victims of child sex trafficking and forced prostitution in Southeast Asia through global partnership with supporting organizations, projects, resources and other compassionate human beings.
Tribal Truth – Tribal Truth is a women’s empowerment organization in 6 cities, hosting events and mastermind programs designed to help women come together, share resources and support one another in living life on purpose to make a difference in the world.
