Forget the Scale: How to Enjoy the Holidays Without Guilt
Hello, my fabulous Menopause Mondays® readers!
Here’s the deal: I’ve spent my whole freak’n life thinking I was fat. Seriously! Recently, I was flipping through some old scrapbooks and you know what? I looked great—at every size, in every stage of life, even when I was 9 months pregnant and had gained 60 pounds (don’t judge!).
For what feels like a gazillion years, I’ve written my holiday blog on managing your weight during the holiday season. But you know what? F THAT! This year, let’s do something different.
Instead of stressing over every bite, let’s enjoy the holidays. Eat what you want. Shut off that critical voice in your head that constantly tells you you’re not thin enough. It’s exhausting, and it’s high time we give ourselves a break!
That critical voice can feel relentless, especially around the holidays when there’s food, family, and festivities everywhere. But here’s the thing: you’re in control. It’s time to have a little heart-to-heart with that voice and harness it instead of letting it run wild. If it pipes up when you’re eyeing that holiday dessert, ask yourself: “Is it worth the stress?” Chances are, you’ll realize that a little indulgence won’t derail your health. The real problem isn’t the pie, it’s the negative chatter in our heads telling us we’re not enough. And we are enough—at every size!
Now, I’m not saying go off the deep end. Let’s use moderation, sure—but more importantly, let’s focus on the moments that make this time of year special. Savor the foods you love. Enjoy the laughter, love, and memories being made around you.
What’s a few pounds after all? You’re not doing anything in January anyway—you can get your healthy eating back on track then. This holiday season, let’s stop the war with our bodies and focus on what really matters: joy, connection, and letting that critical voice know it’s time for a holiday break, too.
