The days are longer, the temperatures warmer, and the sky seems bluer. If — despite all this — your mood seems bluer, too, it’s probably because you dread donning a bathing suit for the first time this season.
Let’s face it, it’s inevitable. Like the changing of the seasons, during perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause, our bodies change too. [ss_click_to_tweet tweet=”Let’s face it, it’s inevitable! Some people get chills when they hear nails on a chalkboard. I get chills right around this time every year when bathing suits make their way to the forefront of conversation again. Bikinis, one-pieces, tankinis, oh my! Time to bust out the old box of bathing suits from last summer. Yikes!
My bathing suits must really love me because no matter how many times I ask them (and by “ask,” I mean “stretch”), they won’t stop squeezing me! The suits from last summer seem to hit all the wrong places. Does anyone else have this problem? Why can’t my ass stay inside the bathing suit?? I’m over my old bathing suits, and now it’s time to replenish the stash. This year, I ordered new bathing suits online and bypassed the annoying horribly-lit and too-close-for-comfort mirrors in the department store fitting rooms. I prefer my dimly lit bathroom!
Personally, I had great luck with MiracleSuit swimsuits. They are very flattering because they are designed with tummy control (LOVE!) and a fabulous bra with extra padding for an extra lift. (No, I am not making $ on this endorsement.) The designers of MiracleSuits must be menopausal women! They are brilliant.
While you are at it, treat yourself to a pedicure. Our feet take a lot throughout the day – occasionally, they can use some pampering, too. Use lotion to keep your feet from looking scaly and your legs from looking dry and pasty throughout the summer. Put on a big, floppy hat (my favorite is this one from SunPrecautions, add a cute cover-up, and oversized sunglasses — voilà! — you look fabulous!
When you’re trying on suits for this summer, make sure to keep that über critical voice in your head at bay. Stuff the sock you just took off in its mouth and have a great time – no negativity!
Of all the suits out there to choose from – one-piece, bikini, tankini… panini? – there’s one you’ll always have, and that’s your birthday suit. Maybe talking about bathing suits doesn’t have to be akin to fat-talking. Push aside that annoying negative voice in your head, and thank the summer season for making me think about my eating and exercise habits. After all, we know that our weight and health go hand-in-hand. If you feel that weight has become a recent issue for you, remember that thyroid disorder symptoms are often mistaken for perimenopause symptoms. Let’s remember the one suit that really matters this summer.
Let’s remember as women in the prime of perimenopause and menopause, we have experienced so much and learned even more about ourselves. Let’s set an example for the next generation about self-love. This summer, realize your self-truth and know you are beautiful, inside and out. Perimenopause and menopause have nothing on us! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to finish all the ice cream in the freezer (If I get rid of it, I can’t eat anymore!). [ss_click_to_tweet tweet=”Ladies, it’s time to embrace our power! 💫 As we navigate the prime of perimenopause and menopause, we’ve experienced and learned so much about ourselves. Let’s be an inspiration to the next generation by embracing self-love.” content=”” style=”default”]
