Menopause Mondays: Insomnia, Depression, Anxiety, Weight Gain and More – It’s Your Time!

National Women's Health Week

I love to celebrate! I love to have a week – and sometimes month long birthday celebrations.  You can never celebrate life too much.

This month is National Menopause Awareness Month.

Have you ever celebrated this?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm that’s what I figured!  Well, it’s time you do, “It’s Your Time!”

So what is “your” time? It’s time you put yourself on your own to-do list….right there on the top.  Yes, this week, focus on YOU! No excuses. You have to make the time – you DESERVE it!

For those of you who are in perimenopause, menopause, or post-menopause or think you might be headed in that direction, start by asking yourself a few simple questions:

Are you tired,  or down?
Are you sleepless?
Are you depressed?
Are you anxious?
Is your house full of post-it notes because you can’t remember a thing?
Do you think somehow, over night, you have joined the secret sisterhood of the shrinking pants?
Do you have bursts of uncontrollable crying?
Would you rather mop the kitchen floor than have sex?
Are you unusually irritable and exhausted?
Are you hot????  As in hot flushes, hot flashes, or night sweats.
Does everyone in your family think you need an exorcism?
Do you feel like an alien has taken over your body?

If you find that you are having some or all of the above symptoms, start charting your symptoms – it’s an easy way to take care of YOU!

While you are doing that, find yourself a wonderful menopause specialist to partner with you so that you can get the help you deserve!

This is the month to do it! Celebrate Menopause Awareness Month  by taking care of “YOU.”  Trust how you feel and get the help you need and  deserve.

We are all in the pursuit of hormone happiness – you can find it – I did!

My Motto:  Suffering in Silence is OUT!  Reaching out is IN!

  1. Menopause is one of the the best things that happened to me! I suffered throughout my life with severe hormone imbalances and endometriosis and feel like, thanks to my awesome Gyn/Menopause Specialist guiding me through the correct diet, supplements and bio-identical hormones (and two surgeries!), I got my life back. I recently saw an episode of Grey’s Anatomy where a woman had surgical menopause and the message it gave was horrifying! It was like the woman was going to shrivel and become old and worthless because of it. It was awful and misogynistic! I thought “Wow, do people really think this way about menopause?” So thank you Ellen, your message is wonderful and we need more of this in the world. This mainstream view of menopause is so often outdated and must change. It has been a journey but I am 50 and menopause helped me find my powerful, sensitive, vital, soft, happy, shining self!

    1. Love this, Jacqueline! Today amongst the gazillion emails that women send me, I got one from a women in perimenopause who was trying to go to graduate school and had to drop out. I told her what to do to get the proper help so that she can go back to school next semester! No need to suffer and not live a purposeful life. There are lots of options that are safe and healthy! Next, I think I need to contact Shonda Rhimes and straighten her out. We need to get the proper message out on these sitcoms! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful story!

      1. So great you helped her Ellen! I can relate to this woman. There was a time, even when I was working with my Doctor to find a solution when all I could do was the bare minimum to function–take care of my child and struggle to run my business so I could at least support myself (barely) and NOTHING else. I want to add it takes time to find a doctor. My doctor is the only NAMS certified gyn who is actively treating women in all of Brooklyn (my seventh doctor!). So it can be VERY frustrating until you find who and what can help you.

  2. I am celebrating with you Ellen because what is the alternative??? Now did I say I was going to make a cake? Who took the cake recipe?? It’s too hot for a cake! I am crying too much to read the recipe. Love the menopause!
