Predicting heart disease risk is not an exact science, but doctors are building the case for another tool to guide their evaluations when it comes to women.

Women who have excess body weight during the first half of their life may be less likely to develop breast cancer later on, study claims. On the other hand, researchers at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey found preliminary evidence that the consumption of red meat and poultry could increase the risk of breast cancer – but only in white women.

Many women add soy and fiber to their diet in hopes of preventing the vasomotor symptoms of menopause — hot flashes and night sweats. But a new study suggests it probably does not help.

A new study in International Journal of Cancer suggests that having high levels of estrogen for a longer period may reduce the risk of lung cancer in women.

A preliminary study of 127 post-menopausal women on hormone replacement therapy in Portugal suggests that there are several risk factors associated with osteoporosis and bone fracture these include age, low bone mineral density, a sedentary lifestyle, coffee consumption and ovariectomy. Details are reported later this month in the International Journal of Medical Engineering and Informatics.
